Countdown...

My life has been sooooo hectic lately! Thats my excuse for not being consistent with blogging and I'm sticking to it!! I've been busy with my Etsy store (I'll do a separate post on that in the near future) and also planning my wedding *insert excited smiley*

My wedding is in a little less than 9 months so its getting harder and harder to contain my excitement with each passing day. So of course I've been counting down...the months, days, hours even seconds.

So I decided to make countdown blocks to help me.

One sunny afternoon while looking at bridesmaids dresses online and trying not to get too frustrated when I couldn't find anything I really liked, I found myself staring at this calendar blocks I had bought a long time ago for the ladder shelves in our living room. And that's when it hit me! I can do something similar to countdown to the wedding.

I was really looking for the easiest way out so I went on a field trip to Michael's hoping to find some pre-cut wooden blocks. They did have wooden blocks but they only had one pack which was not enough for me. I stopped by Lowes on my way back home and found blocks that were just what I needed but I had to cut them which I was trying desperately to avoid :(

I already had everything else at home. The hardest part of the project was cutting the blocks. So if you are lucky enough to find pre-cut blocks then this would definitely be a breeze for you.

I whipped out my handy dandy miter box and saw and simply cut 2 blocks in the same size and a couple more smaller ones. Any size you decide on will work but my measurements were 5.75 for the longer ones and 1.75 for the smaller ones.

I went on to sand the blocks and paint them. I chose pink for the blocks and gold for the fonts which are my wedding colors.

I cut the words out on vinyl and just stuck them on the blocks as centered as I could possibly get them. Then I just gave each block about 2 coats of mod podge to ensure the words adhered to the blocks well. It also gave it a nice glossy finish which I love.

For the bottom blocks, I only have 2 but on the very last one it says MR & MRS on one side and Happily Ever After on the other side so I can switch it around every other week or whenever I feel like it.

You can make these blocks to countdown to whatever occasion you are looking forward to...wedding, baby, vacation, new house, the ideas are endless. Plus it makes a great display on your desk. I have mine on the desk in my office which is where most of the wedding planning happens.
